What is the legal tread depth for my tyres?

The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quaters of the breadth of the tyre and arounf the whole circumferance. However less than 3mm will considerably increase your stopping distance and reduce traction in poor weather conditions.

Also it is worth noting that max penalties for having illegal tyres are currently up to a £2500 fine and 3 penalty points on your driving license... PER TYRE!

This also applies to your spare if you have one!! Check your tyres regularly and change them before a change in the weather.
